About Learnalyze

What is Learnalyze?

Learnalyze is an AI-powered platform that helps teachers gain deep, actionable insights from recorded or uploaded lesson videos. The platform uses intelligent analysis to provide feedback on teaching practices, helping teachers and schools grow professionally and improve their educational impact.

Who uses Learnalyze?

Tens of thousands of teachers across hundreds of schools use Learnalyze to receive detailed, data-driven feedback on lessons, teacher performance, and teaching strategies.

Who is behind Learnalyze?

Learnalyze is built by Elm Education, founded in 2023. The team combines education specialists — including former government education advisors, curriculum and assessment authors, and published textbook authors — with software engineers specialising in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

How Learnalyze Analyzes Lessons

What equipment do I need to record my lessons?

To record your lesson, you only need a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. These devices are sufficient to capture audio at a quality that allows Learnalyze's AI to accurately analyze lessons. For improved audio quality, you can use additional Bluetooth microphones. One option is an omnidirectional microphone, such as the Anker PowerConf Speakerphone, which can be placed in the center of the classroom to capture both teacher and student voices. Alternatively, a teacher can wear a single Bluetooth microphone, such as the DJI Mic Mini, to ensure consistently clear audio.

How does Learnalyze analyze the lesson?

After uploading the lesson video, the AI examines it using advanced algorithms and educational standards. The system looks for patterns, structures, interactions, and other key teaching characteristics. Results are delivered through dashboards and reports highlighting the key aspects of your teaching, making the analysis easy to interpret and apply.

How long does the analysis take?

Analysis is fast — typically completed within a few minutes after uploading your lesson video, allowing you to review insights quickly and start improving immediately.

How does Learnalyze score a lesson?

Each of the six dimensions receives a score from 0 to 100. Scores are banded as Excellent (85-100), Good (65-84), Satisfactory (39-64), and Needs Improvement (0-38), so teachers and leaders can see at a glance where practice is strong and where to focus next. Lessons can also be analysed against a particular country's school inspection framework, so the feedback lines up with the standards your school is actually held to.

Can Learnalyze analyse lessons recorded on Zoom?

Yes. Learnalyze offers an official Zoom for Education integration. Once an administrator connects the school's Zoom account, new cloud recordings are collected automatically and prepared for analysis, so teachers do not have to download and upload files by hand. The integration only requests recording read access, and it can be disconnected at any time.

The Six Dimensions of Learning

What are the 'Six Dimensions of Teaching Excellence'?

Learnalyze evaluates lessons across six core teaching dimensions: Lesson Structure, Behaviour Management, Clarity, Formative Assessment, Engagement, and Adaptive Teaching & Differentiation. Together, they provide a balanced, evidence-based picture of teaching practice.

Why does Learnalyze use these six dimensions to analyze lessons?

The six Learnalyze dimensions are based on international research on effective teaching and learning. They reflect what consistently matters for student learning across ages, subjects, and educational systems, including frameworks like OECD's TALIS, Danielson's Framework for Teaching, and Hattie’s Visible Learning.

Why six? Why not more or less?

Each dimension captures an essential area of teaching effectiveness. Together, they give teachers and leaders a balanced, comprehensive way to understand what works well and where growth is needed. Learning analytics research supports multi-factor assessment frameworks because teaching is not one-dimensional.

What is Adaptive Teaching & Differentiation?

Adaptive Teaching & Differentiation evaluates how effectively teachers adapt their teaching, support and level of challenge to meet the diverse needs of learners, ensuring every student can access learning and make strong progress. It looks at how teachers adjust explanations and questioning during the lesson, provide scaffolding where it is needed, and extend students who are ready for more.

What research are the six dimensions based on?

The framework draws on established research into effective teaching, including John Hattie's Visible Learning, Barak Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction, Robert Marzano's work on classroom practice and management, Dylan Wiliam and Paul Black on formative assessment, Carol Ann Tomlinson on differentiation, and guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation. The full paper and reference list are published on our Research page.

Using Feedback

How should teachers use Learnalyze feedback?

Consider feedback as coaching. It highlights patterns you might not see in the moment, such as lesson pacing trends, engagement levels, or clarity of key concepts, helping you reflect, improve, and develop your practice over time.

How should leaders use Learnalyze feedback?

Learnalyze reveals consistent patterns across lessons, teachers, departments, and schools — such as strengths in lesson structure, engagement, or formative assessment — which are hard to capture through ad hoc observations alone. This allows leaders to prioritize, guide professional development more precisely, support coaching conversations, and monitor improvement over time.

Does Learnalyze replace classroom observation or professional mentors?

No — Learnalyze enhances human expertise rather than replacing it. It provides consistent, data-driven insights across lessons and sites while mentors and teacher judgment remain central to supporting teacher growth and development.

For Schools & Leaders

Can school leaders see results across the whole school?

Yes. Alongside each teacher's own feedback, Learnalyze provides dashboards for principals, department heads and administrators showing trends and performance across the school. Leaders can see where practice is strong across the six dimensions and where professional development would have the most impact.

Can Learnalyze be used for whole-school professional development?

Yes. Because every lesson is analysed against the same six dimensions, schools can use the results to identify shared priorities, plan training around them, and track whether practice improves over time, rather than relying on occasional one-off observations.
